Can Earth Leakage Circuit Breakers be used with Optidrives?

Yes, with the following provisions:-

  • A Type B device must be used
  • An individual ELCB must be fitted for each Optidrive
  • The ELCB should be sui for protection where the leakage current contains a DC component
  • The trip level should be at least 30mA. The actual leakage current depends on the nature of the installation, the motor cable type and length, effective switching frequency and the RFI filter in use, and in some cases, a higher trip level may be required.
